Well met, traveler. Thanks for visiting Starbeast Inferno Productions. We’re a small-scale, independent video game development studio. While the group is new, its founding members have been friends for over a decade and have spent much of that time writing, creating, criticizing and debating works of speculative fiction. Collectively, we’re big fans of anime, manga, and Japanese RPGs, as well as traditional Western-style fantasy and science fiction. Listing specifics could go on for a while, so we’ll leave it there.
Over the years, we’ve found that many modern video games have opted to put flashy graphics and spectacle above storytelling, leaving these visually stunning games feeling hollow, devoid of life or memorable characters. Worldbuilding, character development, story structure… there’s no reason these elements need to suffer in exchange for slick action. While the highest quality graphics might be outside our reach (for now), we know that we can bring quality storytelling to the table, so that’s where our focus lies.
One aspect of this is to try to include character types that perhaps aren’t frequently seen in these kinds of stories. That means characters who may lie anywhere on the various spectra of race, gender, sexuality, and so on. Speculative fiction makes an excellent environment for examining these types of characters, often through a symbolic lens, and as a result can be immensely important in changing how people think and act. Our hope is that players of our games will be able to become accustomed to ideas that they might not have been exposed to otherwise, and perhaps broaden their horizons and tolerance in their real lives as well.
